On Monday 22nd June, Winston House will welcome 25 students enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Summer Honors Program as they embark on a 6-week programme of study in London and Oxford.
The students, taught by Christopher Armitage, Distinguished Term Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literature, will study Shakespeare and Drama at Winston House during the day and attend ten plays and productions in the evening, including Tom Stoppard’s ‘Arcadia’, ‘Waiting for Godot’, starring Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, and ‘As You Like It’ at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
When the students move on to Oxford, St Edmund Hall will be the base for classes, and day trips to Stratford Upon Avon will be taken. St Edmund Hall is one of the oldest university buildings in Oxford, dating back to 1220. In this part of the programme, the students will see ‘The Winter’s Tale’ and ‘Julius Caesar’ performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, and will visit the Bodleian Library, the Ashmolean Museum and C.S. Lewis’ meeting room.
